First time selfies

Today I went to Xiangshan, which is at the end of the red line on the MRT. There is a trail to hike called Elephant Mountain which was suggested to me. What was kind of weird (and believe me I knew it was coming eventually) was that I was sitting on the train and these two ladies came in. One sat next to me and the other to my left but in front (the seats were shaped like an L). They were talking to each other (again with me in the middle) and suddenly the one on my left whips out her phone and takes a selfie with her, her friend, and me in the middle. More than once in fact. They thanked me so...lol I guess its cool.

So I got to the trail and omg I am thinking "what have I done to myself?" I don't hike like ever. But I mean, if I am going to hike it should be by myself. One of the reasons I don't hike is because I am out of shape and really have to take like a hundred breaks and I am ashamed, embarrassed, and feel like I am holding everyone back. So going by myself fixes a lot of these issues. Anyway, this hike is suppose to get you to a point where you can oversee the entire city. I started off and pretty much felt like I was dying. I stopped many times and hung out in those spots for many many minutes. I finally got to a look out point (which was a quarter of the way up) and decided that it was good enough for me for my first try. The result was not disappointing, let me tell you.

Even though I didn't even make it close, I am still proud of myself for doing it. I even met another American up there and chatted a bit. It was nice to have a conversation. I made it back eventually (after a very long rest), had some dumpling soup, and took a good long rest watching Friends and looking for apartments.

Later on I went off to the Shilin night market. It is the most famous night market in all of Taiwan! It is huge and crowded and full of pretty much anything you would want. There is food you cant identify, shirts full of engrish, and smells you cant even imagine. There I got a fried squid (yum!), a bubble tea, and a backpack (which is super cute!). I left when I got to the point where I was going to explode inside. It is extremely overwhelming shuffling around with thousands of people. All in all it was a pretty great day. :)
